Professionally I am a bit of a jack-of-all-trades and wear a few different hats:
- Registered level 1 yoga teacher with Yoga Australia ~ certified to teach Bikram Yoga and Viniyoga;
- A health coach certified with the Insitute of Integrative Nutrition;
- An Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultatant ~ certified through TAFE;
- An Accredited Pharmacist registered with the Australian Association of Consultant Pharmacy; and
- An AHPRA registered pharmacist currently working at the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service as a senior clinical pharmacist.
All of that can sound like a bit of a mish-mash of skills, however, I have found that they all come together nicely and allow me to assist people from many different angles. As we know, good health requires a multidimensional approach and nowadays research is showing (what Yoga teachers already know) how modern medicine is well supported with complementary approaches such as Yoga. From a pharmacist's perspective it is essential to optimise modern medicine for the individual, and from a yoga teacher's perspective it is essential to ensure the yoga practice is specifically designed for the individual.
Yoga is my passion, it forms a large part of my evolving śraddha (purpose). In the last few years I have been introduced to the approach (Viniyoga) taught by Trimulai Krishnamacharya ~ yoga for the individual. This approach is based on Patañjalī-s Yoga Sūtra-s and as a result has a richness and depth which centres upon addressing the obstacles which can turn up along the way of us achieving our highest potential.
In the last few months I have become a Mum and have started teaching Mum's and Bub's Yoga in line with the Krishnamacharya tradition. Shortly after becoming a Mum I realised how important any sort of
practice was - I had to let go of being able to start and finish my
practice without any interruptions and learn a new way of practicing. These classes are designed to provide a safe space for Mum's to practice Yoga whilst their baby cries, needs feeding or a cuddle. The focus of the class is strengthening the abdominal muscles (from childbirth or caesarean); loosening resistance in the body particularly in the upper back, neck and lower back (from feeding, nappy changes and baby-wearing...love my baby sling); and providing some time for the Mum to relax and meditate (baby in arms if necessary).
Part of the Viniyoga Tradition is building an individualised practice for the client and encouraging a personal practice. If you have particular areas of your health or lifestyle you would like help addressing please contact me for a consultation. I would love to be part of your journey towards reaching your highest potential.
